AuSES Solar Rally to target NSW feed In tariffs

16 May 2011

Green Energy Trading has given support to the The Australian Solar Energy Society’s (AuSES) Solar Rally to be held in Sydney at the Customs House from 11.30am – 12.30pm on Wednesday 18 May.

The Solar Rally will draw attention to last Friday’s announcement by the NSW Government that they will retrospectively change the feed in tariff rate for approximately 120,000 NSW households from 60c kW/h to 40c kW/h from 1st July, and cut the feed in tariff completely from 29th of April.  AuSES is coordinating a multi-faceted response to the announcement and is advocating that companies, customers and the general public say ‘no to retrospective cuts to solar feed in tarriffs, and yes to an immediate a 1:1 feed in tariff in NSW’.

The concern is that the NSW Government set a cap, legislated for the feed in tariff scheme, promoted the scheme heavily and as a consequence people installed solar systems based on the contracts they signed for a 60c kW/h feed in tariff.  The NSW Government is now reducing this to 40c KW/h and for those who budgeted on installation based on the original feed in tariff, this will cause financial difficulties.

There is also a call for a 1:1 feed in tariff moving forward so that that customers will be paid the same rate for the solar electricity they feed into the grid that they would purchase from the grid.  This would seem to be a fair deal.
