Binding STC Target for 2012 of 44.8 million STCs

27 Feb 2012

On Friday 24 February the Government released the binding Small-scale Technology Percentage (STP) for 2012. The STP is 23.96% which is equivalent to a target for 2012 of 44.8 million STCs. This is slightly higher than the non-binding target (44.3 million STCs) announced by the Office of the Renewable Energy Regulator (ORER) in mid-December 2011. The slightly higher target is predominantly due to a higher surplus of STCs at the end of 2011 than expected.

The target of 44.8 million STCs for 2012 comprises (i) the carry forward surplus of STCs from 2011 of 22.5 million plus (ii) an estimate for 2012 installations of 22.3 million.

In terms of PV, the target for 2012 is equivalent to an installed capacity of around 450 MW. Whilst this is lower than the 780 MW or so installed in 2011 it represents a 20% increase on the 2010 installation level.
