VEEC Scheme Expansion to Business and Non-Residential Premises

The expansion of the VEEC Scheme came into effect on 7 December 2011.

What is included in the expansion of the scheme?

The amended regulations allow eleven prescribed activities that were previously restricted to residential premises to be undertaken in eligible business and other non-residential premises.  Building classifications can be found on our website click here.

Green Energy Trading creates certificates for prescribed activities 1A, 1B, 1C, 1D, 2, 3 & 4 (water heating), 1C, 1D, 3 (solar water heating) and 5 & 10 (space heating) for business and non-residential building.   For a listing of eligible systems please visit the register of products on the Essential Services Commission website click here.

To be eligible, a business or non-residential premises must fulfil two criteria:

1. the premises must not be a residential premises, defined as buildings classified under Part A3 of the Building Code of Australia as Class 1, 2, 3, or 4 Buildings, and

2. the premises must not appear on the register of scheduled activities within the meaning of section 26G of the Environment Protection Act 1970 (the ‘EREPs’ Register).  To view the register click here.

What is the VEET Scheme?

The VEET Scheme (Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Scheme) was established under the Victorian Energy Efficiency Target Act 2007 (the Act) and commenced on 1 January 2009.  It is legislated to continue in three-year phases until 1 January 2030.  The scheme is designed to play an important role in achieving the Victorian Government’s target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions from households by 10 per cent by 2010 and Victoria’s overall emissions to 60% by 2050.
