Australian Government Solar Hot Water rebate
Rebates of $1,000 for solar water heating systems and $600 for heat pumps are available for households across Australia when replacing existing electric storage hot water systems.
This rebate is only available to households which have not received a rebate to install ceiling insulation at this address.

New South Wales
A rebate of $300 is available for households when replacing an electric water heating system in a residential property with either a gas hot water system with a minimum 5 star energy rating or a solar or heat pump hot water system eligible for at least 20 RECs. The system must have been installed in a residential property by a licensed plumber and purchased between 15 January 2010 and 30 June 2011. This rebate is in addition to the Australian Government Solar Hot Water rebate.

Victoria - Metro
A rebate of $300 to $1,500 is available for households in metropolitan Melbourne to switch their existing gas, electric or solar hot water system to solar. You can’t claim this rebate if you’re claiming the federal rebate. However if you’ve claimed the federal insulation rebate, and are therefore ineligible for the federal solar water heater rebate, you can still claim this rebate.
The Victorian metro rebate is offered as a point of sale discount through participating suppliers and manufacturers.

Victoria – Regional
Between $400 and $1,600 is available for households in regional Victoria to switch their gas, electric or solar hot water system to solar. You can’t claim this rebate if you’re claiming the federal rebate. However if you’ve claimed the federal insulation rebate, and are therefore ineligible for the federal solar water heater rebate, you can still claim this rebate.The Victorian regional rebate is available as a point of sale discount through participating manufacturers and suppliers.

Western Australia
A $500 rebate is available for households who install natural gas-boosted solar water heaters and a $700 rebate is available for bottled LP gas-boosted solar water heaters used in areas without reticulated gas. The rebate is available for new, two or more panel gas boosted solar systems that are used for residential purposes.

Northern Territory
A rebate of up to $1,000 is available for pre-existing homes in the Northern Territory replacing electric systems with solar hot water systems that attract at least 20 RECs. The rebate amount depends on the modifications required to the roof.
Up to $1000 is available for homes built in or before the year 2000 that have timber trusses in their roofs which will require reinforcement in order to support the new solar hot water system and require additional pluming.
Up to $400 is available for homes built in or prior to the year 2000 that have steel trusses in their roofs which will only require additional plumbing.

ACT
A $500 rebate is available for expenditure of $2,000 or more on the priority recommendations in your ACT Energy Wise audit report - which can include installing solar water heating. The audit costs $30 which is also refunded for those claiming the rebate.

Queensland
The Queensland Solar Hot Water Program was established to provide solar water heaters to residents for $500 and to pensioners and low income earners for $100. Participants need to pay other expenses associated with non standard installations such as council fees, additional plumbing or electrical equipment etc. The Queensland Government is still taking registrations of interest.

South Australia
A rebate of $500 is available for solar water heater or heat pumps installed on or after 1 July 2008. The system must be eligible for a minimum of 18 RECs in zone 3 regardless of which zone it was installed. The scheme is targeted at low income households and the home owner must hold at least one of the following Australian Government concession cards:
• Centrelink Health Care Card • Centrelink or Department of Veterans' Affairs Pensioner Concession Card • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card - Totally and Permanently Incapacitated • Department of Veterans' Affairs Gold Card - War Widow • Department of Veterans' Affairs - Extreme Disablement Adjustment

Tasmania
There are no additional rebates for Solar Water Heaters available for Tasmanian residents except those living in Hobart city. Hobart City Council offers ratepayers a $500 rebate when installing a solar or heat pump hot water system in their homes.

Victoria - Metro
When replacing a peak electric water heater with a natural gas or LPG water heater that has a 5 star rating (or 4 star for internal systems) $400 is available, $700 for concession card holders or $300 if you live in a flat or apartment where there's a separate occupancy directly above or below you.
