Solar Credits are available for eligible installations of small-scale solar PV, wind and micro-hydro systems on or after 9 June 2009. This allows you to receive 5 times more RECs for the first 1.5kW of an installation. Generation from capacity above 1.5 kW will still be eligible for the standard 1:1 rate of REC creation. In order to determine the number of RECs your systems are eligible for under Solar Credits we have created a handy calculator.
Only “eligible premises” will be able to access the REC multiplier. The regulator defines this as: (a) a house (b) a townhouse (c) a residential apartment (d) a shop (e) premises, other than premises mentioned in paragraphs (a) to (d), that are located at an address.
If approval or pre-approval for Commonwealth government rebates has been given under the Solar Homes and Communities Plan (SHCP), National Solar Schools Program (NSSP), Photovoltaic Rebate Programme (PVRP) or Renewable Remote Power Generation Program (RRPGP) then the system will not be eligible for Solar Credits.
No more than one system per address is entitled to Solar Credits; however, you can get Solar Credits for a second system at the same address provided it has not already received Solar Credits, it meets the eligibility criteria and is a completely separate system.
An updated assignment form for PV systems claiming Solar Credits is now available.
